The Russian Ministry of Defense used the report released by SY24, on the details of Russian pilot, Roman Filipov’s suicide. Filipov’s SU-25 was shot down by a thermal missile,near the town of Ma’asaran, east of Ma’arat al-Nu’man in rural Idlib.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that, “After landing by parachute, close to a village under opposition control, in east Idlib, Major Roman Filipov blew himself up with a grenade, when the distance between him and the gunmen was reduced to several meters”.

Military sources said in an exclusive interview with SY24, that the pilot, who took off from Hmeimeem airbase in Lattakia, had carried out several air raids on rural Idlib. The aircraft he was flying was shot down by a thermal missile over the city of of Saraqib. The pilot blew himself up with a grenade before the FSA were able to capture him.
